The Journey

Led by a professional management team, SGP LLC is an U.S corporation engaged in the production and promotion of films. We are passionate about movies that are universal in their appeal and have the ingredients to captivate a global audience. The management of SGP LLC comprises of individuals whose collective talents and decades of professional experience span diverse areas like film direction and production, marketing, strategy, business management, legal and finance. The vision, knowledge and experience is complimented by a set of critical intangibles that are central to the success of a business venture; those intangibles include, but are not limited to, best-in-class ethical standards, planning, execution, control mechanisms and a professional work environment. We strongly believe that we are uniquely positioned to develop a scalable platform that will enable us to:

  • Attract a global talent pool for in-house direction, production and promotion of movies
  • Partner with other production companies and leverage our expertise to promote and market movies in the domestic and international markets

Our maiden voyage began with a full length feature film called Dwando (Conflict). Purely from a cinematic perspective, the decision was elementary. A deeply poignant drama that seamlessly intertwines the lives of four individuals and highlights the complexities of life and its choices, a legend of Indian movies in Soumitra Chatterjee, the passion and multifaceted talents of Suman Ghosh, sheer excellence in cinematography from Barun Mukherjee and the vast musical talents of Mayukh. Nevertheless, we also had conviction in our vision and ability to lend this venture an added dimension, which we hope will make it a success. You are the ultimate judge and we await your verdict.

Regardless, we have many more miles to go, and we hope that we have the good fortune of having you by our side.  We want the opportunity to indulge you with our passion, delights, humor and accomplishments. Disappointments, failures and everything else is our burden to bear.

Will you come along?

From Conception to Birth

Legend has it that once upon a time…

…….while a boundless winter and a global recession of epic proportions had engulfed the known world in its dark shadows…….

……. across faraway lands, an epiphany blossomed in the minds of a chosen few and they made a connection….….

…….as the faint whisper of coffee table tête-à-têtes flow burgeoned into passionate discourses……

……..incipient ideas matured into conclusive reality, guarded curiosity made passage for passionate interest, diffidence was swept away by strong conviction ………………..

…….as the leaves started their Autumn journey towards the earth, the chosen few shed all their inhibitions and became united by a vision that bridged the expanse of the lands, seas and the oceans.....

…….SGP LLC was born.

Legends are legends; here is the pinch of salt.

The so called discourses and tête-à-têtes sometimes bordered on the cacophonic. Nevertheless, they were always passionate.

When the flow of inspiration ebbed, coffee was substituted with more intoxicating concoctions

Making the connection was easy, try telephones and emails. Physically bridging the vast expanse of the oceans was painful, yes, even in the 21st century! Don’t take our word for it; try the 16 hr flights to and from India..…

We don’t kid ourselves. We are no chosen few neither are we here to save the world.

So who are we really? Read on….

The Cast

We are a motley crew: couple of entrepreneurs, a lawyer, an academic with a profound passion for the cinema, and most importantly the Wall Street honcho:

Oney Seal: Founder and CEO of the Databazaar group – a US-headquartered multinational group that has businesses in diverse verticals – internet retail and technology distribution ( www.databazaar.com ); software development and outsourcing ( www.databazaar.biz ), and now of course, media. Like many others of his kin, Oney boasts of the all the critical ingredients that contribute towards such high accomplishments. Of particular mention is his meticulousness - he irons his shorts and socks before he goes for a run. The ignorant might call it an aberration; we tend to associate such matters with eccentricities that come with the genius. His culinary skills are legendary and his guests are treated to a Biriyani that even the Heaven’s crave. He is the big Kahuna, the Don from Miami. We call him the Boss.

Sujoy Mukherjee: His business interests are diverse and range from manufacturing to real estate. He is also the Director of Databazaar India (www.databazaar.biz) and looks after the group’s business interests in India. He is the quintessential Bengali ‘babu’. On a lazy Sunday afternoon, it is not uncommon to find a masseur, a beautician and a barber tending to his bodily needs while his butler indulges him in epicurean fantasies. He claims that this is his revolution against westernization of all and sundry, especially, values like self-sufficiency; he has been and continues to be the gold standard for unflinching courage and dedication to the causes of an elitist revolution. Hailing from Kolkata, he manages and executes a majority of the projects for our ventures. We call him the Executioner.

Suman Ghosh: He is a tenured professor of Economics at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, (http://home.fau.edu/sghosh/web) with publications in many top Economic journals. Like all academicians, Suman believes that his students are spellbound by his wisdom, oratory and charm; there might be room for doubt, but we have never broached that subject. For many years he has had a deeply passionate love affair with cinema; that relationship was consummated when Suman’s debut directorial venture, Podokkhep, won critical acclaim in several prominent Film Festivals across the globe. In 2008, he also won the Silver Lotus Award at the 54th Indian National Awards for Podokkhep. Which begs the question: What is he first, a professor or a movie director? Well, Suman continues to spend many a sleepless night pondering over the great riddle. Till the heavens liberate him from that dilemma, we decided to call him the One.

Ananjan Mitter: He is one of the Founding partners of ALMT legal  (www.almtlegal.com), a prominent Indo-British law firm. He negotiates, litigates, arbitrates and mesmerizes the courtroom with his conviction and intellect. He hobnobs with the glitterati and crisscrosses the globe in his relentless legal pursuits and yet he finds time to deeply engage in Pranic Healing.  Perfectly complementing the above are his good looks and strong penchant for acting; which probably explains why he got so involved with the casting of our film and subtly pitched himself for the protagonists’ role. We sensed that it might be a case of unfulfilled dreams; being the nice guys that we are, we took a great risk and somehow managed to get him an insignificant role in our film. He deftly divides his time between Mumbai, London and the pursuit of spirituality, which is why we reverently call him the Swamiji.

Subhadeep Basu: Last in mention but certainly the first among equals is of course our honcho from Wall Street. When this Head of Capital Markets & Treasury for one of USA’s largest financial institutions decided to join our team, we felt we were surely on to something. Whenever he is not busy carrying out President Obama’s mandate of reviving ( or killing ) some crucial sector of the US economy, he is trying hard to inject financial reality to our flights of fantasy. Fortunately for us, we did not have to think up a name for him. His father being a man of great vision, foresaw both his role in the crash of Wall Street and his role as the controller of our venture’s purse, and nicknamed him ‘Jhola’. If you speak Bengali, you will certainly appreciate that.
